In order to receive monetary donations through the Brownie Points platform, you will need to set up donations for your nonprofit organisation. Currently, Brownie Points makes use of three different payment methods through the platform, which will appear as donation options to supporters for donation causes: 


  • External donation link(s) - To redirect supporters to another site that already has a payment option setup for your organisation e.g. your website's donate page, or a fundraising campaign on another platform.
  • Bank account details - So your supporters can pay their donations directly into the organisation's bank account.
  • Ozow - To enable 100% donations to go directly into your nonprofit's bank account via instantEFT. No setup or transaction fees.


Ozow is an online instantEFT payment feature that allows quick payments and charges 0% transaction fees for any payments to registered nonprofit organisations (NPOs) on Brownie Points. Other fundraising platforms usually charge 3% to 6% transactions fees on top of online payment processing fees, which makes it challenging for nonprofit organisations to keep track of donation processing fees and to calculate actual donation amounts for impact units (e.g. feeding a child for one month).


To activate your Ozow account:


Step 1 - You will need to verify your organisation's bank account details

  1. Go to your Organisations
  2. Click on Edit details (for the organisation you would like to add banking details for)
  3. Scroll down to Nonprofit bank account details and add the relevant information to the required fields:
    • Bank
    • Account holder (i.e. your nonprofit organisation's name)
    • Account number
    • Branch name
    • Branch code
    • Bank confirmation letter (letter from the bank confirming all the above bank details, which can be obtained online via the Bank's website)
    • Your latest audited financial statement (optional)
  4. Once you have filled all the required fields and uploaded the required documents, click on Save

NOTE: The Bank confirmation letter is required in order to be verified for Ozow.


Step 2 - You will need to verify your organisation's NPO number and upload your NPO certificate:

  1. Scroll down to Nonprofit verification 
  2. Click Confirm details
  3. Enter your NPO number (in the format 123-456 NPO)
  4. Upload your NPO certificate
  5. Click the checkbox to confirm the information
  6. Click Save


Step 3 - Now you can set up your Ozow account:


  1. Scroll down to the Ozow platform integration section
  2. Click on Setup Ozow Account. 
  3. If your organisation is a registered NPO with the Department of Social Development then click YES.
  4. If you have completed the previous steps then you can click on Apply.


Note: You will receive a notification from Brownie Points when Ozow has been activated on your account. This could take1 to 2 business days. Donations will take 1 to 2 days to be processed, similar to normal EFT payments.
